Project Brief:

Research and document a place/venue in the San Luis Obispo area and create an informational and promotional campaign targeted towards tourists and local visitors.

Initial Research & Documentation

Pismo Beach is a coastal city located along California’s Central Coast, positioned roughly halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Known for its relaxed atmosphere and scenic natural surroundings, Pismo offers a blend of classic California beach culture and accessible outdoor experiences. The area features a wide range of environments, including sandy beaches, coastal cliffs, rolling hills, and the nearby Oceano Dunes, one of the few places in California where vehicles are permitted on the beach.

The town itself includes a walkable downtown area with restaurants, shops, and the iconic Pismo Pier, which serves as a central gathering point for both visitors and locals. Pismo is also home to the Monarch Butterfly Grove, where thousands of butterflies migrate seasonally, adding to the area’s environmental significance.

Unlike more densely populated coastal cities, Pismo Beach maintains a slower pace and a more approachable, less commercialized feel. Its combination of natural beauty, recreational activities, and small-town charm makes it appealing to a wide range of visitors, from tourists seeking a traditional California beach experience to locals looking for a quiet coastal escape.
